Eco-dyeing

Eco-friendly dyeing – saves water, energy and emissions

Eco-friendly dyeing processes such as the Yarn or Solution Dye are already being used by various manufacturers for various products. For example, Vaude relies on its "ecolour"-process, elkline uses spun-dyed Ecoya® yarns and Fjällräven the SpinDye technology.

The difference to conventional dyeing processes:

  • In conventional dyeing processes, the yarn is spun undyed. After that the spunned yarn or the finished product is dyed in several dyeing and rinse cycles.
  • During eco-friendly dyeing processes the yarn is dyed before spinning. The dyestuffs are added directly during yarn production. Following this, the yarn is spun and processed in the respective textiles.

Colourful yet green
Eco-friendly dyed textiles are as colourful as textiles dyed using conventional processes. The advantages of the eco-friendly dyeing process are convincing:

Compared to conventional dyeing processes, for the eco-friendly dyeing process much less water is required, because the dyeing bath and the many additional rinsing processes are not required. This also saves a lot of energy and produces less emissions. In addition, with this form of dyeing the color pigments are not rinsed out again and again, so at the end less dyeing chemicals are required. A further advantage is, the yarn is not only dyed on the surface, but also dyed through. As a result, spun-dyed fabrics have a very high color fastness.
