Description

With the Rab Stratosphere 5.5 sleeping mat, you are well-equipped for cold nights outdoors. Stratus™ R insulation strikes a balance between weight and comfort, creating a comfortable sleeping surface while maintaining a compact packed size. The integrated insulation enhances the mat's thermal performance; with an R-value of 5.5, it is suitable for use in cold conditions.

Enlarged outer chambers help ensure a stable sleeping position. Using the included pump sack, you can quickly inflate the mat without introducing breath moisture into the interior, which helps minimize internal moisture buildup. A stuff sack and a repair kit are also included.

R-value
The R-value is a measure of a material’s thermal resistance. This value indicates the resistance to heat transfer—that is, how well a material resists cooling. The higher the R-value, the lower the heat loss and the better the insulation properties. However, as the R-value increases, so does the weight. A mat with an R-value of 10 weighs approximately 3 kg. On a scale of 1–10, an R-value of 1 is rated for temperatures up to +7°C. Mats with an R-value of 10 are designed for temperatures down to -50°C.

Stratus™ R
Stratus™ R is a durable synthetic polyester insulation. The insulation traps air within its fiber structure, offering a balanced warmth-to-weight ratio. As a synthetic material, it retains its performance in damp conditions better than many natural insulations and dries relatively quickly after use.
