Dedicated to improving the health of vulnerable people
Vestergaard is an international company dedicated to improving the health of vulnerable people, most of whom live in developing countries. In 1957 Denmark farmer Kaj Vestergaard Frandsen starts a company manufacturing uniforms for workmen. Kaj’s son Torben joins the family business in 1968 and buys surplus wool cloth and has it made into blankets sold to the Red Cross and Save the Children. Then Vestergaard develops tsetse fly traps to catch vectors that carry sleeping sickness. In 1996 Vestergaard creates LifeStraw® Guinea Worm, a plastic pipe filter to strain out Guinea worm larva (and prevent Guinea worm disease) for The Carter Center. This marks the start of the LfieStraw® product line. The award-winning portable LifeStraw® water filters evolves from the LifeStraw® Guinea Worm filter. It transforms dirty water into safe drinking water. Today Vergaard operates offices in Africa, India and the USA and has its headquarter in Switzerland.
