A small cup with history
Kupilka means „small cup“ in Finnish language and originates from the Finnish word „Kuppi“ (cup). It dates back to the beginning of the 20th century when people warmed up themselves during the hard Finnish winters drinking hot beverages from small cups. But Kupilka’s roots even go back to the year 1775, in that year the Kupilka style cup was recorded for the first time. It was made for tasting homebrew alcoholic beverages. Furthermore in ancient times it was a tradition to sit around the fire and drink from a small cup. Sometimes a hot drink, sometimes something sweeter. When evening came this small cup signalled a time to listen to stories, to the waves on the lake and the trees in the forest. Today the Kupilka embodies this wonderful Finnish tradition.

Kupilka – not only cups
In 2003, a small Finnish company started the series production of the small traditional cup – the company's name derives from this cup: Kupilka. Since then, the range has been expanded including bowls, plates and cutlery - everything with the special Nordic "Kupilka" flair, designed and manufactured in Finland. While the tradition is preserved by the design, the material is extremely modern, innovative and sustainable. This proprietary Kareline® Natural Fibre Composite consists of pinewood fibers and polypropylene which is also produced in Finland using green electricity. The pinewood fibers come from certified forests in Finland, the polypropylene is tested by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Food Authority of the United States. This special composite material makes the Kupilka tableware particularly stable, durable, heat-resistant, easy-care and odorless. In addition, it is responsible for the beautiful grain of the dishes. At the end of its lifecycle, every Kupilka product is fully recyclable and can be used to produce new cups, bowls, etc. So this great Finnish tradition lives on sustainably!
