Merino wool
Merino wool is a unique moisture and temperature regulating material. In a merino wool fabric, millions of tiny air pockets trap body heat. At the same time, your body is cooled or warmed as needed by absorbing or passing on body moisture. The thermal insulation also works when the material is sweaty. The natural anti-microbial properties of merino wool delay the development of body odour.
MerinoLoft™
MerinoLoft™ is an extremely warm layer, developed by Icebreaker for outdoor fans, but also for anyone who wants a versatile jacket for low temperatures. The outer layer is made of recycled polyester with a durable water repellent coating (DWR). A blend of pure merino wool for low weight and insulation, tough wool to hold the fibres together and polylactide (a pure vegetable Ingeo biopolymer) for greater durability and machine washability form the effective wool insulation layer. In addition to high thermal performance at low weight, the sustainability aspect was one of the main concerns for the development of the MerinoLoft™ collection: the aim was to find a sensible use for waste from merino production. This is why merino wool is used for the wool insulation layer, which consists of up to 10% recycled merino fabric residues. Finally, the breathable, hard-wearing lining is made of merino fabric. It regulates the body temperature and also prevents overheating and a clammy wearing feeling. Since merino wool retains its thermal properties even when wet, it ensures that you stay warm when your MerinoLoft™ garment gets wet. Important: MerinoLoft™ is dried on the clothesline, not in the dryer.
