Casual local patriotism from Hamburg - Before they launched their own label in 2001, Thomas Köhlert and Sandy Baumgarten were already active in the fashion industry - she in production, he in sales. The name of their company came about during a car ride. On the radio they heard an interview with the Hamburg hip-hop band Fünf Sterne Deluxe and felt like every second word was "Derbe" - rough style, rough songs... and Thomas Köhlert found the term appropriate for his hometown of Hamburg. He placed zje word over the Hamburg coat of arms and the logo was ready.
