Matador

A warm day in San Francisco in 2014, the lawn still damp from the morning fog. Like many others, Chris Clearman wanted to enjoy the nice weather and was annoyed that he had to sit down on his jacket because a blanket for such spontaneous breaks is simply too unwieldy to carry with you at all times. This problem was waiting for an elegant solution - and Chris, at that time a product designer at an action camera company, already had it in mind: A practical bag blanket was needed - small packable, light, durable and easy to transport. The first prototypes were about the size of a book and it took a few pauses in the park to get it perfect. Then the product and company name benefited from coincidence: "It's like being a matador when you carry this blanket in your pocket and pull it out on the field," a friend quipped about how Chris showed up at every gathering and pulled a red blanket out of his pocket. The Matador Travel Blanket - and with it the Matador brand - was born.

Simple, practical and with efficient use
The Matador Pocket Blanket was a resounding success. Chris realized there was a need for well thought out, ultra light, packable gear and expanded the product range.
