Down Codex®
Mountain Equipment is committed to a transparent and traceable supply chain for the down it uses. All new down and feathers are certified according to the Responsible Down Standard (RDS). Additionally, the company's own Down Codex ensures complete traceability of the down used. Each down product features a unique code that allows the origin and supply chain of the down to be traced, thereby creating transparency in the down sourcing process. Furthermore, every batch is tested by the independent testing institute IDFL for cleanliness, composition, and fill power using the IDFB method.
R-value
The R-value represents a material's thermal resistance. This value indicates resistance to heat flow—in other words, how effectively a material resists heat loss. The higher the R-value, the lower the heat loss and the better the thermal insulation properties. However, weight increases along with the R-value; a mat with an R-value of 10 weighs approximately 3 kg. On a scale of 1 to 10, an R-value of 1 is rated for temperatures down to +7°C, while mats with a value of 10 are designed for temperatures as low as -50°C.
