Klean Kanteen® chose 18/8, food-grade stainless steel instead of aluminum or plastic because the metal itself is safe and toxin-free. Because stainless steel itself is safe, it is not necessary to coat the inside of the bottle with a plastic or epoxy lining, which is one of the main differences between a stainless steel Klean Kanteen and aluminum bottles. The long neck and large-mouth make it easy to drink from the Classic bottles, and the opening is large enough for ice cubes and other big stuff like frozen strawberries.

18/8 food-grade stainless steel
The food-grade stainless steel used in Klean Kanteen® water bottles do not require a plastic or epoxy lining on the inside of the bottle. Thus it is not necessary to check the whether the inside of the bottle is still intact and safe. Another advantage of not having an inner coating is that the bottle doesn't retain or impart flavors.
